On April 24, Hong Mingzi, CTO and Deputy General Manager of Sinochem International
(Sinochem Lithium), Professor Choi Myungchan from Korea University, Dr. Wen
Yanliang from Tsinghua University, and Chief Engineer Zhang Jiancheng of
the Reaction Engineering Team of Tsinghua University visited Ordos Laboratory for research and
discussions. They were accompanied by Bai Dingrong, Technical Deputy Director, and
Wang Jun, Deputy Director of Ordos Laboratory. Heads of functional departments and all
laboratory staff attended the exchange.
The delegation gained a comprehensive understanding of the laboratory’s key research layout, major
technological breakthroughs, phased achievements, project incubation, and talent development. Professor
Hong delivered a special lecture titled "Understanding Lithium Battery Material Synthesis from
Mechanical and Chemical Perspectives". Focusing on how to transform research outcomes into
pilot-scale production and critical factors for large-scale lithium battery material production, he
explained the equipment working principles from mechanical and chemical perspectives, the chemical
reaction mechanisms of material synthesis and surface treatment, and processes to significantly increase
equipment throughput while maintaining quality.
Professor Hong interacted with researchers, discussing technical principles, application areas, and
achievement transformation in lithium battery research. He encouraged young researchers to actively
explore and practice scientific innovation, contributing to key technology breakthroughs, industrial
innovation, and the integration of economic and social development.
After the lecture, Professor Hong and the team visited the Ordos High-Tech Zone and the Dalü Industrial
Park of Zhungeer County, inspecting the laboratory building, pilot plant, the first incubated
20,000-ton-per-year silicon-carbon anode material project, and the 10,000-ton-per-year
CO₂/syngas-to-aromatics industrial pilot project.
Professor Hong Mingzi earned his Ph.D. in Engineering from Korea University in 1992. He has served as
CTO/Deputy General Manager of Sinochem International (Sinochem Lithium) and Chief Researcher at Samsung
SDI (Central Research Institute). He led the construction of the Ningxia Sinochem Yangzhou Lithium
Battery Material Research Institute and Ningxia Power and Energy Storage Lithium Battery Material
Engineering Technology R&D Center, and spearheaded the major project "Key Technology and
Industrialization of Ternary Cathode Materials for Lithium-Ion Batteries in Ningxia Hui Autonomous
Region." He has been awarded the Ningxia “May 1st Labor Medal” and the “Outstanding Science and
Technology Worker” honor in Zhongwei City. He holds or is applying for 146 domestic and international
patents, including 75 in lithium-ion batteries and 71 in fuel cells.
This visit strengthened collaboration between Ordos Laboratory and leading experts in lithium battery
technology, providing guidance for innovation, industrialization, and project development.
