On May 15, Ordos Laboratory held the Chief Scientist Appointment Ceremony. Professor
Hong Mingzi was officially appointed as Chief Scientist of the laboratory, with
Executive Deputy Director Zhang Chenxi presenting the appointment certificate.
Attending the ceremony were Technical Deputy Director Bai Dingrong, Deputy Director
Wang Jun, as well as leaders from all functional departments and all staff members.
Professor Hong Mingzi expressed that he is deeply honored and aware of the responsibility as the Chief
Scientist for the large-scale preparation of new materials. He intends to continue deepening
collaboration between industry, academia, and research, focusing on innovations in lithium battery
materials, strengthening teamwork with laboratory research teams, broadening interdisciplinary and
cross-field research pathways, breaking professional boundaries, and promoting both academic research
and industrialization. He aims to help overcome industry capacity barriers and advance world-leading
lithium battery material preparation technologies, contributing research outcomes to enterprises and
local economic development.
Ordos Laboratory consistently targets the “Double Hundred Talent” goal, recruiting high-level leading
talents as “key drivers,” cultivating professional technical talent to “strengthen the foundation,” and
building a high-quality, specialized, and strategically structured talent team. The laboratory currently
has 101 staff members, including 5 PhDs, 86 Masters, and 10 Bachelors, with 61% holding degrees from
985, 211, or Double First-Class universities.
Professor Hong Mingzi graduated from Tsinghua University, Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1989,
and received his PhD in Engineering from Korea University in 1999. He previously served as CTO/Deputy
General Manager at Sinochem International (Sinochem Lithium Battery) and Chief Researcher at Samsung SDI
Central Research Institute. He led the establishment of Ningxia Sinochem Yangzhou Lithium Battery
Materials Research Institute and Ningxia Power & Energy Storage Lithium Battery Materials Engineering
Technology R&D Center, spearheaded the major project “Key Technology and Industrialization Research
Talent Hub for Ternary Cathode Materials of Lithium-ion Batteries” in Ningxia, and received the “May Day
Labor Medal” of Ningxia and “Outstanding Science and Technology Worker” in Zhongwei City. He holds or is
applying for a total of 146 domestic and international patents, including 75 in lithium-ion batteries
and 71 in fuel cells.
The appointment of Professor Hong Mingzi marks a significant step in Ordos Laboratory’s strategy to
strengthen high-level talent recruitment and establish a world-class team in advanced materials research.
